Picture
TITLE: SHEEPFOLD
46" WIDE X 36" HIGH
Pastoral in nature, I tried to capture the calm, the lack of want, when we, like sheep, 'lie down in green pastures.'... knowing fully the protection of the Great Shepherd. There is restoration, assurance and total trust "even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death".

Six square canvases.

6" WIDE X 6" HIGH
The objects of everyday life have an intrinsic beauty: color, shape language, form. layer, brilliance...which we typically pass by unnoticed in the flurry of each day. This series attempts to freeze time to

TITLE: THE PEARL OF GREAT PRICE III: DISPLAYED TO THE WORLD
48" WIDE X 36" HIGH
The irony of  'fishers of men' – who are themselves caught... hung to be displayed for the sake of their identification with Christ, who is the 'pearl of greatest price'... He is the One worth knowing, and His favor rests on those who respond to Jesus' own question: "Who do you say that I am?"  This is the universal question asked to every man and woman.

Picture
TITLE: BEARING FRUIT
48" WIDE X 36" HIGH
Fruit has always been a parallel in the Christian life to both the 'fruit' of obedience to God, as well as a thoughtful example of each bringing their gifts, talents, and uniting them in a one beautiful landscape: all different, all part of a greater sum. This is a snapshot of the church... and the church is nothing more than individuals united in the cause of making Him known in the world.

TITLE: CONVERSION
36" WIDE x 40" HIGH
The viewer witnesses the transformative essence in this individual...  the movement from dark to light., out of chaos into a new 'first day'. It is a moment of
faith: not knowing what lies ahead... yet a first and necessary step. It has been said that those who turn to a living relationship in Jesus Christ already
possess ALL things in Him... the remainder of his/her life is an exploration and understanding of what is already possessed.
Picture
TITLE: SHORN AND SILENT
20" WIDE X 20" HIGH
In the astonishing Scripture passage Isaiah 53, Isaiah delivers a prophetic message... some 700 years before the birth of Christ... about this Promised Deliverer of Israel. Portrayed as one 'despised and rejected', a man of sorrows, familiar with suffering... pierced for our transgressions... like a lamb led to the slaughter, as a sheep before his shearers is silent." This Promised One would die for the sins of the whole world and offer the way back to right relationship with God.

Truth speakers. Where celebrity underpinning is not a disguise or excuse to irresponsible behavior.
For good; for evil: their behaviors in and out of the limelight have bearing
on the impressionable.

TITLE: THE PERSECUTED CHURCH TRILOGY
THE LUMINENT PASTOR GONG
Oil, 18 x 24”
Pastor Gong Shengliang is the founder and senior pastor of the South China Church (SCC), an evangelical house church with some 50,000 members across several provinces. In 2001, the Communist government in China banned the SCC. labeling it an “evil cult”. In the crackdown that followed, hundreds of church leaders were arrested, their homes and property confiscated, and many thousands of SCC members were persecuted, fined, beaten and harassed. In 2001, Pastor Gong was sentenced to death in a secret trail for ‘using an evil cult to undermine the enforcement of the law’. Only an international outcry forced the government’s hand to abort the execution. Female prisioners were tortured until some ‘confessed’ that Pastor Gong had raped them. He now serves a life sentence for multiple rape. He has been severely beaten, with serious internal injuries. He remains in Jingzhou Prison, Jingzhou city, Hubei province.

In this painting, 1 Corinthians 10:13 (“God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you are able to bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand under it.”) is etched on the wall in his place of imprisonment. It is written from the Chinese Union Version Bible. His posture is reminiscent of the martyrdom of St. Sebastian, portrayed centuries ago by Unger and Durer, and others. Facial detail is purposely lacking, as his trial becomes the trial of every Christian who, in whatever way to to whatever degree, counts the cost of identification with Jesus Christ.

THE LOST BOYS OF THE SUDAN
Oil, 18 x 24”
Sudan is not only a terrorist nation that has triggered United Nations and U.S. government sanctions, it is also a genocidal one. In Sudan's 20 year-old civil conflict, two million people — mostly African Christians and traditional believers from south and central Sudan — have already perished. Sudanese constitute the world's largest displaced persons population, with 4.5 million people having been driven from their homes by ruthless government action. The government of Sudan is the only one in the world today engaged in chattel slavery, as documented by the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Sudan and the U.S. State Department. It repeatedly bombs and burns hospitals, refugee camps, churches and other civilian targets. Through the manipulation of foreign food aid, or calculated starvation, the government brought 2.6 million south Sudanese to the brink of starvation in 1998 and some 100,000 people in fact did die of hunger, according to the U.S. Agency for International Development.

The Sudanese government and its agents are bombing, burning, and raiding southern villages, enslaving and raping thousands of women and children, kidnapping and forcibly converting Christian boys, annihilating entire villages or relocating them into concentration camps called "peace villages," and preventing international food aid from reaching starving villages. Individual Christians, including clergy, have been frequently imprisoned, flogged, tortured, and assassinated for their faith. The regime gives support and sanctuary to the Lord's Resistance Army, which carries out systematic murder, rape, and kidnapping of neighboring Ugandan children. The reign of terror reaches beyond the non-Muslim community to even Muslims suspected of failing to adhere to the government's extremist policies and ideology.

This painting portrays the plight of The Lost Boys, who retell stories of fleeing villages while loved ones are savagely killed.

WHAT GULNEZ SEES
Oil, 18 x 24”
Gulnaz is a young Pakistani girl, who wears the permanent marks of acid thrown in her face and on her body as a Christian believer. According to VOM sources, Gulnaz was attacked with acid at her workplace one day after refusing the verbal taunts and sexual advances of a Muslim customer. Gulnaz was a clerk at the Ijaz Public Call office in Faisalabad and says Tariq slapped the face of Mohammed  when he attempted to fondle her. She say Tariq stormed out of the office saying that he would return to “teach her a lesson.” Gulnaz complained to her employer about the incident and was told not to worry about any possible future problems with the man. The following afternoon, Tariq returned clutching a bottle of acid in his hand. He threw the acid on Gulnaz’s breast and ran away. She suffered burns to 40% of her body, and lost sight in her right eye and is in need of a cornea transplant.

She is holding the opened text of 1 Corinthians 10: 13 (“God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you are able to bear.”) written in the Gujarati Bible translation. What she now “sees” is, on one hand, the permanent reminder that identifying with Christ means suffering for His name’s sake, yet, on the other, the faithfulness of His promise, “Lo, I am always with you.” She holds the promise of out to you and I, the viewer.

Those who exalt and lay festive palm branches will soon shout for His crucifixion. Yet He reaches our to them "as sheep without a Shepherd". This is the promised
Messiah: not coming in royal splendor, rather, emptying Himself, taking the form of a man who would lay down His life... to make those who turn to Him for forgiveness
'royalty'. He would lead the disciples with quiet resolve into Jerusalem "for the joy set before Him..."
